Corona in Germany: Novavax start is very cautious

The new corona vaccine Novavax has been vaccinated in some federal states since Saturday (February 26).

Virologist Christian Drosten believes that the omicron variant of the virus can also be infected in summer.
That's what the professor at the Charité said in the podcast "Coronavirus Update" on NDR-Info.
The vaccination progress is not sufficient and the infection activity through Omikron is still high.
"That's why I assume that there will be no infection-free summer," said Drosten.

Drosten does not assume an "untamed" wave, but "you will also be able to get infected with this omicron virus in the summer".
Accordingly, he also thinks it is advisable to continue wearing masks indoors in summer.
In particular, wearing FFP2 masks indoors is “the most efficient measure of all” in the long term.
Drosten also sees another wave of winter after the summer - according to his hope without a serious burden of illness in the population, but with the risk of work losses on a large scale.

Corona in Germany: Ease of travel for families - Immediate free testing for children under 12

Corona in Germany: Baden-Württemberg starts with Novavax vaccinations

The first doses of Novavax's new corona vaccine were administered in Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday.
The long-awaited goods arrived at the Stuttgart Clinic at midday, and a few hours later the first vaccinations were given.

The corona pandemic seems to be easing further in Germany.
The nationwide seven-day incidence has fallen again.
The Robert Koch Institute gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week on Tuesday morning as 1213.0.
For comparison: the day before the value was 1238.2.
A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1306.8 (previous month: 1206.2).
The health authorities in Germany reported 122,111 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.
The RKI reports a slight decrease compared to the previous week.
Last Tuesday there were 125,902 infections.
Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data.
One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent.
In addition, according to the ALM laboratory association, there is now a larger number of people whose infection is no longer confirmed by a PCR test - these infections are therefore not included in the official statistics.
According to the new information, 235 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.
A week ago there were 306 deaths.
The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 6.08 on Monday (Friday: 6.28).
Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

Corona in Germany: Hessen starts with corona vaccinations with Nuvaxovid

The state of Hesse started corona vaccinations with the protein-based vaccine Nuvaxovid on Monday.
Previously, there had been delivery bottlenecks at the US manufacturer Novavax, which is why the start date had to be pushed back.

Corona vaccinations: Novavax start in several federal states
With the beginning of the new weeks, people in other federal states can be vaccinated with the new corona vaccine from Novavax*.
From Monday this will be possible in Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Berlin and a district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This was the result of a survey by the German Press Agency among the responsible authorities in all federal states.
In Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Saarland and partly in North Rhine-Westphalia there were already vaccination options with the vaccine at the weekend.
