The municipality of Ismaning also invests in times of crisis, but the reserves are shrinking - and the debt is growing.

Ismaning

– Compiling a municipal budget is a difficult challenge in itself.

With the factors pandemic, inflation and war, looking into the future is even more difficult.

The municipality of Ismaning was nevertheless able to pass its figures for 2022 unanimously and without pull-ups, because financially it is in good shape even in times of crisis.

The budget has a volume of 145.6 million euros.

With the most important revenues from trade tax (60.0 million euros) and income tax (15.4 million euros), Ismaning is still in the top league of Bavarian municipalities.

The tax capacity of 4669.48 euros per inhabitant means fifth place in the district of Munich, seventh place in Upper Bavaria and twelfth place in Bavaria.

“The year hasn’t gotten any easier when it comes to the forecasts”

"The year has not become easier in terms of the forecasts," said Mayor Alexander Greulich (SPD) in his budget speech in the municipal council, "but we have not had a year of standstill." One still has "relatively good income" and is also using the funds responsibly around, which of course cannot be compared with the record years before the pandemic.

Greulich emphasized that the community will continue projects that have already started.

He also attacked the district again, which had to reduce the district levy: “The district levy cuts us municipalities with every point in our possibilities.

Our construction of a third primary school, the expansion of the high school and measures for climate protection are not things that are 'nice to have' (editor's note).

In his speech, the mayor also addressed the Russian attack on Ukraine and emphasized the massively increasing importance of energy and climate protection policy: "We must become more independent of extreme suppliers who are unreliable and blackmail us into doing so." Greulich is aware that that Ismaning is much further along than other municipalities with the geothermal project started ten years ago and a broad package of climate protection measures, but the geopolitical situation makes further steps necessary.

"We have a very good climate in our climate protection commission," said Greulich, with a view to the goal of being able to become energy self-sufficient as quickly as possible.

29.0 million euros in debt

However, the 2022 budget also lives off the savings of the good years.

In 2021 it was planned to withdraw 16.0 million euros from the reserves, and this year another 15.7 million euros.

The municipal savings account is expected to amount to 12.8 million euros at the end of the year.

On the other hand, the plan for the end of 2022 is expected to be EUR 29.0 million in debt.

According to the Ismaninger tradition, the big set of figures was then decided unanimously.

In Ismaning, this is the sign that everyone wants to go the same way.
