Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, announced that Western countries have resorted to direct threats to some UN delegations to vote in favor of condemning the Russian special operation in Ukraine.

Russia Today website quoted Nebenzia as saying during his speech to the United Nations General Assembly: “We are aware of the unprecedented pressure exerted by our Western partners on a large number of countries, forcing them to vote as the West wishes,” noting that the United Nations General Assembly resolution on Ukraine “will not contribute to The cessation of hostilities, on the contrary, could encourage the radicals and nationalists in Kyiv to continue defining policy in the country at any cost and holding civilians hostage.”

Nebenzia added that refusing to support this project today would be a vote for a peaceful Ukraine, free of radicalism and neo-Naziism, at peace with its neighbors.

In a related context, Nebenzia confirmed that the Ukrainian regime is preparing nationalist battalions in Ukraine for provocations using civilians as human shields by preventing them from leaving the city of Mariupol and detaining them in a school in the city, including women and children, in addition to its deliberate forcible return of all civilians who tried to leave the city through humanitarian corridors.
