Over the past year, in response to soaring oil prices, the number of wells in operation in the United States has already increased by more than 60%.
Some 650 wells are in operation, while Saudi Arabia deliberately limits its production: this explains why the United States is the world's largest oil producer with nearly 12 million barrels per day.
Companies exploiting shale oil deposits have promised their shareholders and creditors not to fall back on their past mistakes by producing too much, which inevitably leads to heavy losses as soon as prices fall again.
However, there seems to be room for a further increase in 2022, in the context of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
