The participants in the activities of the fourth and final day of the specialized workshop to adopt the general orientation of the agriculture and livestock sector in Al Fakhoora district discussed the field requirements necessary to implement the components of the agreed axes and link them with the outputs in a practical way in order to reach an executable formula.

The discussion in the workshop organized by the Syrian Trust for Development in partnership with the official institutions in the governorate, representatives of the local community, experts and specialists over four days in the Apamea Resort in Lattakia was preceded by a presentation of the components that were agreed upon according to 5 main axes.

In the field of agriculture, it was agreed to restore damaged olive and citrus orchards and horizontal expansion by reclamation of new lands, taking into account the appropriate varieties of the environment, improving the production and marketing of citrus, the added value and the quality of olive production, developing and activating the reliability program and expanding the cultivation of winter and summer vegetables on arable and uninvested areas and improving the added value And marketing through the establishment of manufacturing and packaging units in line with the Municipality's endeavor to improve the economic reality provided by seasonal crops until the damaged annual crops can bear fruit.

It was also agreed to expand the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants on areas of 10 to 15 percent of the available agricultural land, to provide sufficient seedlings and a map for planting species, and to obtain organic production certificates as a completion of the stage made by the Secretariat in the way of reaching communities that invest their resources in an optimal manner and the expansion of fodder cultivation to cover the needs of livestock in Sub-district and cultivation of salt-tolerant forage plants on treated water and expansion of tobacco cultivation.

In the field of livestock, the workshop focused on helping existing and suspended poultry houses to turn the wheel of production by providing limited-interest financing, studying the possibility of constructing new poultry houses based on cooperative work, supporting small family projects related to home poultry farming, assisting working cow farms with their full production capacity and increasing The number of cows raised by families and their availability through interest-supported loans, the establishment of milk processing units in accordance with standard specifications, the provision of a brand for it, and the utilization of the waste resulting from raising cows by producing energy and fertilizers, encouraging and spreading beekeeping, rooting the Syrian bee breed and relying on it in breeding due to its adaptation to the environment as well as Encouraging silkworm breeding as a kind of small income-generating projects for the most vulnerable families and those projects that help the people to use the contents of their environment to improve their livelihood.

In the field of water, the trend towards not using drinking water directly for irrigation and increasing the availability of water through rainwater harvesting projects and non-conventional water from treatment plants and raising the efficiency of water use through the transition to modern irrigation and collective investment.

In the field of marketing, establishing manufacturing units for plant and animal production to produce according to standard specifications, provide the brand, implement shopping exhibitions, invest the available opportunities in sales outlets, and increase the trend towards e-marketing by developing a platform for marketing the district’s products and linking them to social media pages in line with the direction of the Secretariat in supporting economic projects from By finding opportunities and areas for marketing the products of small projects to the communities that seek development in the hands of their people.

In the field of improving technical support and extension services, it was agreed to provide logistical support, specialized technical cadres and appropriate training for extension units to enable them to perform their tasks by providing technical support to agricultural producers.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the CEO of the Syrian Trust for Development, Shadi Al-Ashi, stated that it will complete its sessions to set a direction and requirements for the rest of the sectors of water, education, health, communications and others, and it is supposed to be completed in full within two weeks.

Al-Ashi explained that based on the directions of all these sectors, an executive program will be prepared with a time frame and specific responsibilities to begin translating what has been agreed upon, noting that in the first quarter the requirements for all service sectors will be finalized in the Al-Fakhoura sub-district, and in the second quarter the working groups will continue their discussions to set the time and executive program and monitor the possibilities To launch the executive program in Al Fakhoora during the second half of this year, according to the initial vision.

Al-Ashi presented a proposal to the attendees, as representatives of the people of Al-Fakhoura, to agree on an initiative whose condition is that it is not individual and serves the entire district to be a direct way out to be implemented during the month of March.

The director of the Syrian Trust for Development in Latakia, Rani Saqr, indicated to SANA’s reporter that the participants’ dialogues reviewed the necessary needs for each orientation within the addresses that were agreed upon on the third day, indicating that identifying, classifying and organizing the requirements and needs constitutes a preliminary step for setting the implementation plan and moving on the ground.
