Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed today that Germany's decision to stop the ratification process of the Nord Stream 2 project will lead to irreversible damage to relations between Moscow and Berlin.
"Berlin's decision to stop the project will lead to irreversible damage to Russian-German relations, which have been far from vague in recent years through no fault of ours," Zakharova said in a statement posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.
Zakharova stressed that Russia's position on energy cooperation with Germany and Europe as a whole has not changed after Berlin's decision to stop ratifying the Nordic Stream2.
Zakharova recalled Russia's constant assurances that the North Stream 2 project is a purely economic and commercial project that was implemented in accordance with international law, EU regulations and relevant legislation of coastal states, pointing out that the timely operation of this gas pipeline would be in the interests of both Russia and Europe.
Zakharova also explained that Berlin's refusal to operate the gas pipeline will lead to a rapid rise in gas prices in Europe. Hostage of artificial association with other political intrigues.
The head of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, said earlier that Europe had punished itself by imposing sanctions on the North Stream gas pipeline 2.
