Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that the proposed draft resolution on the military operation in Ukraine expresses a biased approach based on political propaganda and represents a tool of pressure and political blackmail.

Sabbagh said during an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine that the authors of the project were keen on aggressive language of the Russian Federation targeting its legitimate position and its right to protect its land and people from the real threat to its national security.

Sabbagh explained that the draft resolution was not designed to search for a real solution to the crisis, but rather to demonize the Russian Federation and distort its image through misleading media and major campaigns to distort the facts.

Sabbagh added: Syria is voting against this project for its rejection of the West's policy of hegemony, igniting and prolonging crises, spreading chaos, perpetuating selectivity and double standards, and imposing coercive unilateral measures.
