The Central Council of the General Sports Federation, in its first regular session of 2022, which was held today at the headquarters of the Federation in Damascus, discussed a set of proposals that would develop Syrian sports and achieve more achievements in the expected benefits.
The most prominent interventions of the members of the Council focused on the reality of investments, the quick decision on issues related to club investments, the amendment of some provisions of the clubs’ financial system, the formation of a committee to study the proposal for professionalism in volleyball and handball, and activating the work of training centers.
The President of the General Sports Federation, Firas Mualla, reviewed the work of the Executive Office during 2021 and its upcoming work plan, pointing to the most prominent benefits awaiting the Syrian sport, represented by the Asian Games, the Mediterranean Games and the Youth Games.
The council’s work included a video presentation of the achievements made last year and a panorama of the reality of the facilities that were maintained, including halls and stadiums, in addition to some events and activities organized in various governorates.
The report submitted by the Executive Office on its work during 2021 and the work plan for 2022, the general budget of the Sports Federation, and the approval of a number of draft rules and regulations submitted by the committees formed by the Council, in addition to the members’ suggestions and recommendations.
The session was preceded by a memorial ceremony for the late weightlifter, Talal Al-Najjar, which included a presentation on his achievements as a player, coach and vice-president of the Weightlifting Federation for several years, in addition to a speech by the President of the Weightlifting Federation Hassanein Al-Sheikh in which he reviewed the exploits and achievements of the deceased locally, Arab and continental, and a speech by his son Moayad Al-Najjar, in which he thanked the General Sports Federation for what He gave it to the deceased, past and present.
