The Russian Foreign Ministry denied reports that Moscow had expelled the US ambassador to it.
Russia Today channel quoted a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that "the news about the expulsion of the American ambassador in Moscow is untrue, and that the procedures for responding to the American decision to expel Russian diplomats from the United Nations are still being studied."
For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia is discussing measures to respond to the expulsion of members of its mission to the United Nations.
Zakharova had previously confirmed that Washington's expulsion of 12 diplomats from the Russian mission to the United Nations in New York "will not go unanswered."
