Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko warned of the danger of a direct clash between the Russian forces and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), pointing out that his country had previously warned the West of the consequences of Ukraine's accession to this alliance.

"Russia has repeatedly warned the West that NATO's promise to accept Ukraine as a member is a time bomb that would explode sooner or later," Grushko said, noting that the aggravation of the current situation around Ukraine rests entirely with countries that have ignored Russia's vital interests.

He considered that everything that NATO did after the Cold War ended in disaster and that each new expansion led to the deterioration of the security of the alliance itself. He added, "NATO considered itself victorious in the Cold War and had an illusion that it could establish its own world order."

Grushko stressed that Europe must sooner or later realize that the security structure centered around NATO is a path that leads to an impasse, and that a new European security structure can only be considered after the issue of providing security guarantees to Russia, which will continue to insist on (material and legal) guarantees. Because NATO does not expand eastward and that the West should be aware that Russia has legitimate security interests, describing Europe's geopolitical orientation as a very big and dangerous game.

Grushko stressed that the United States does not want the European Union to enjoy geopolitical independence and to have an opportunity to be an independent player in the global arena, explaining that the Americans want to subordinate the entire potential of the European Union to NATO.

Grushko noted that Moscow "is quietly looking at the aspirations of the European Union to possess its own military capabilities, but the United States does not want to allow this, considering the question of Ukraine's accession to the European Union at the present time is difficult to imagine."
