The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) today rejected Ukraine's request to exclude Russia from its membership.
A spokesman for the INTERPOL General Secretariat told Britain's Guardian newspaper that "only the INTERPOL General Assembly can vote on issues related to membership."
The General Assembly, INTERPOL's supreme governing body, includes representatives from all 195 member states.
The British newspaper pointed out that Russia's continued membership in the organization gives it access to the Red Notice database and potential support on a larger scale.
Earlier this week, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastirsky asked Interpol to exclude Russia from its membership after it launched a special military operation in Ukraine, and Britain and Poland supported Kyiv's efforts to do so.
