Novavax vaccine is finally available in Germany.

Demand is low.

The vaccination boom is a long time coming.

Berlin – The fuss surrounding the Novavax vaccine was great at first.

The corona vaccine should bring a boost to the vaccination rate.

An alternative for vaccine skeptics - or at least for everyone who is suspicious of mRNA technology.

The principle behind the vaccine has been tried and tested for decades.

It's a classic vaccine - similar to many flu vaccines.

A virologist even compared the Covid-19 vaccine to “old cars”.

No live virus components are contained in the Novavax vaccine.

However, no dead virus components.

Nevertheless, the protein vaccine has the label "dead vaccine".

Vaccination boom is a long time coming: Novavax launch is sluggish

Now the Novavax vaccine is in Germany at the start.

The first batches were initially reserved for employees in the health and care sector.

But unvaccinated people are apparently not convinced by the offer.

The German Association of General Practitioners is currently dampening hope for a vaccination boom.

"In the practices, there have so far only been isolated inquiries from patients about the Novavax vaccine," said Chairman Ulrich Weigeldt of the editorial network Germany.

"According to the current status, it is at least questionable whether the new vaccine will lead to a significant increase in vaccination rates."

"Of course, anyone who has not been vaccinated so far is difficult to convince," said the head of the association.

"It is obvious that these people need a different way of addressing them." The current communication campaign with the well-known slogans does not reach them.

According to the General Practitioners Association, the new vaccine has not yet been delivered to the practices.

Corona: Vaccination rate in Germany is currently 75.5 percent

The vaccination rate in Germany is currently 75.5 percent.

62.8 million people in Germany are fully immunized.

This emerges from the data of the vaccination dashboard on Wednesday.

According to the vaccination rate monitor of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 88.6 percent of those over 60 are fully vaccinated.

77.5 percent of them have now been boosted.

Currently,

19.7 million people in Germany are not yet vaccinated

(23.7 percent).

There is currently no approved vaccine available for

4.0 million

of these people aged 0 to 4 years (4.8%).

Novavax vaccine: So often corona vaccine already vaccinated

So far, according to the RKI data

, 5,736 Novovax vaccine doses have

been administered in Germany.

In addition, 602 second vaccinations were recorded.

For comparison: A total of 104,000 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday.

Great hope for Novavax

The federal government hopes that the drug Nuvaxovid will give new impetus to the vaccination campaign in Germany.

It was approved as the fifth corona vaccine in the EU - for people aged 18 and over.

Two doses are injected about three weeks apart.

The first federal states began administering the preparation at the weekend.

The Novavax vaccine is currently not an option as a booster vaccine.

The Novavax vaccine is usually well tolerated.

However, the vaccine can be dangerous for allergy sufferers, warned the President of the Medical Association of German Allergists (AEDA), Professor Dr.

Ludger Klimek.

In Germany, however, the 7-day incidence is falling.
