Lufthansa without a clear profit forecast because of the Ukraine war

In view of the Ukraine war, Lufthansa is preparing for another difficult time after two costly pandemic years.

"We are very sure that air traffic will experience a strong upswing this year," said CEO Carsten Spohr when presenting the annual balance sheet on Thursday.

However, great uncertainties surrounding developments in Ukraine, the consequences of the conflict and the uncertain course of the pandemic did not allow for a detailed financial forecast.

He only promised a further improvement in the operating result.

The bookings for the Easter and summer holidays are almost at the level of the pre-crisis year 2019.

In the second Corona year 2021, Lufthansa was able to reduce its loss by two thirds to around 2.2 billion euros thanks to a certain recovery in passenger business and a billion-dollar profit in the freight division Lufthansa Cargo.

The adjusted operating loss (adjusted EBIT) fell by 57 percent to a good 2.3 billion euros and was therefore slightly higher than the average experts had expected.

Without the costs of restructuring the group, including the loss of thousands of jobs, the adjusted operating loss would have been almost 1.8 billion euros.
