The veteran actor with the mane of blond, healthy and lush hair, speaks openly and shares how he maintains it even in middle age

Actor Matthew McConaughey maintains a healthy mane of hair even at 52, and in a recent interview he also reveals the reason for this.

McConaughey claimed in his autobiographical book "Greenlight" that at one point in the 1990s he shaved his head, after experiencing a significant dilution in the amount of hair that grew on it.

In an interview with LADbible, the actor said: "You can go back and watch movies like 'Wedding Organizer' and others.

You can see I'm losing my hair. '

The actor explained the moment he decided to fight the thing.

"I got a picture of myself from a millennium party in Jamaica, where I was seen looking down and laughing, and there was a bald spot the size of a baseball ball on my head," he said.

The Hollywood star discovered that after seeing the picture he decided to shave his head, and has since started applying a therapeutic ointment for 10 minutes every day, in order to make the hair grow back.

In an interview several years ago, he revealed that the name of the ointment was "Regenix".

"I was really committed to that," he said in the new interview.

"I did not use any Propecia (a well-known and popular anti-baldness drug, etc.) or anything like that. I was just committed to manual labor."

Though excited by the results, he too could not explain the miracle of re-growth.

'All I can say is he's back.

I have more hair now than I had in 1999. '

He further said that there are those who tried to take credit for the mane of his head, including a doctor who claimed at an international hair transplant conference that he gave McConaughey hair extensions.

The actor says he discovered this from a doctor from Beverly Hills, who wanted to touch his hair and feel it.

"You have no transplants!" The doctor wondered and told the star, according to his story.

"That's what I said, of course I do not," McConaughey replied.
