The Jerusalem District Court ruled today (Thursday) in a ruling that could cause a diplomatic crisis, that Russia's registration as the owner of the courtyard of Alexander Church in the Old City of Jerusalem will be revoked.
The sensitive property is also known in the courtyard of the Church of Alexander Nevsky, whose roots go back in history to the "glorious Russian kingdom".
In 2017, Russia submitted a formal application for registration as a landowner.
In 2020, the then Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, made this possible as a tribute to the release of Naama Issachar.
The Registrar of Real Estate has ruled that the Russian Federation, which is the current Russian regime, is a "continuing state" of the "glorious Russian kingdom" that no longer exists, and therefore the registration renewal order must register the owner as the Russian government.

In the objection filed against it, it was written that it was in fact a political deal formed between the governments for political reasons only.
But the court believed that the factor that decides who owns the land is not the court but the government, since the issue is a political issue.
"Mandatory legislation stipulates that no court or matter related to the holy places or religious buildings or religious places in Israel or to rights or claims relating to the various religious denominations in Israel shall be arbitrated or decided by any court in Israel," Judge Mordechai Kadouri ruled.
Now the issue has moved from the court to the government’s decision in the midst of a bloody war in Europe, with the West imposing unprecedented sanctions on Russia.
