Update from March 3, 12 p.m.:

Solidarity with Ukraine is still huge in Bavaria.

A peace demonstration took place in Munich yesterday, Wednesday, attended by more than 40,000 people, including Prime Minister Markus Söder.

The city of Regensburg wants to help its Ukrainian partner city Odessa with all means possible.

While the two mayors are on the phone, Odessa is attacked by Russia.

Update from March 2, 1:40 p.m .:

The Bavarian cabinet dealt with the Ukraine conflict and the consequences for Bavaria in an unscheduled meeting on Wednesday.

Aiwanger emphasized that the war is already affecting the economic sector (see update at 12:51 p.m.).

Interior Minister Herrmann informed at the press conference about Bavaria's aid with regard to war refugees (see previous update).

Among other things, Söder called for the Bundeswehr to be upgraded and announced the new corona easing, which will apply in Bavaria from Friday.

Bars and clubs are allowed to reopen with the 2G regulation, 3G will then apply in the catering trade and the spectator capacity at events will be increased.

Ukraine conflict/Russia: Herrmann announces Bavaria's refugee aid

Update 1:10 p.m .:

Preparations for refugees are already being made in the municipalities.

Bavaria is preparing for up to 50,000 Ukrainian refugees.

"We still have around 1,000 places available in the existing facilities for asylum seekers." New rentals will create more places.

If necessary, sports halls or vacant buildings would also be used.

One has to consider that Afghan local workers continue to come to Germany.

Update 1:05 p.m .:

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann now has the floor.

They want to work hard in Bavaria to ensure that refugees from Ukraine find safe accommodation.

It is currently difficult to make predictions about how many people will come to Bavaria.

"Many Ukrainians flee to the immediate neighboring countries".

In Poland alone, 300,000 people have probably already arrived.

The EU faces the enormous challenge of absorbing these people.

Herrmann praises the willingness of the EU countries and citizens to show solidarity.

Ukraine war: Aiwanger explains the effects on Bavaria's economy

Update 12:51 p.m .:

Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger urges Russia to stop “this war that violates international law”.

There are already major effects for Bavaria.

The top priority is to stop this "madness" immediately.

According to the minister, Bavaria's economy is already experiencing delivery bottlenecks.

Car manufacturers would have to stop their production.

"Factories are simply shut down." If it's certain products, "then it hurts us a lot".

One tries to intercept the loss of substance for Bavarian companies, but that is not possible everywhere.

"Many medium-sized companies are facing a heap of broken glass".

Aiwanger is certain that energy prices will continue to rise.

Over 50 percent of Germany's gas consumption comes from Russia, as does a third of the oil.

In the case of gas, about a third of the storage locations are still full.

It would have been better if you had filled up more.

"A federal government must think differently here in the future." Exit from coal?

You have to examine all options.

Update 12.45 p.m .:

Söder relies on nuclear energy instead of coal.

In the long term, it is still important that Bavaria follows a clear line when it comes to hydrogen.

The federal government needs planning for a pipeline quickly.

On the subject of energy, a long letter will be written to the federal government with all the state government's demands.

Finally, Söder goes to the peace demonstration on Wednesday evening on Königsplatz.

Corona loosening in Bavaria: Söder opens clubs and discos

Söder is now devoting himself to the relaxation of the corona virus.

From Friday (March 4th) 3G will apply in gastronomy, clubs and discotheques can reopen with the 2G plus rule.

The mask is also no longer needed in physical education classes.

"One crisis leads to the next".

People are unsettled.

"It doesn't help, you have to survive in these times".

The state government accepts this challenge.

"We help friends and we protect our country": According to Söder, these are Bavaria's orders.

It's about preserving human rights.

The new loosening at a glance:

  • The 3G rule applies in gastronomy.

(Access for vaccinated, recovered and tested)

  • Bars and nightclubs open under the 2G Plus rule.

    (Vaccinated and recovered with test)

  • The spectator capacity for events will be increased, a maximum of 25,000 spectators are permitted.

    (With mask requirement)

  • Pupils no longer have to wear a mask in physical education classes.

Ukraine conflict: Söder calls for upgrading of "cyber defence"

Update 12.40 p.m .:

Investments in “cyber defence” are also needed, emphasizes the Prime Minister.

"It's time to invest now." However, Söder sees little point in conscription, and Söder is also critical of general compulsory service.

“We rely more on voluntariness than coercion.”

After two years of Corona, young people should not be made even more insecure.

Update 12:36 p.m .:

“We will make our contribution, we initially support the neighboring countries, but we are also willing to take in refugees,” explains Söder.

Self-protection also plays a major role.

Söder therefore welcomes the US soldiers sent to strengthen NATO in Bavaria.

"Bavaria sees itself as a protective country." However, the Bundeswehr would lack the simplest materials.

"That's why it's important that this changes fundamentally." They support Chancellor Scholz's initiative, who recently announced a special fund for the Bundeswehr.

Ukraine conflict: Söder declares war aid from Bavaria in a press statement

Update 12:33 p.m .:

The press conference begins.

"Bayern is on the side of Ukraine, Bayer helps in need," begins Markus Söder.

"We reject aggressive war and call for its immediate cessation."

Bavaria wants to do its part.

Connections to Russia have been suspended, all partnerships have been suspended.

Söder thanks the citizens of Bavaria for their great commitment.

"We have to act with a big heart, with a lot of empathy and a clear mind." Protective equipment, blankets, mattresses and other relief supplies will be sent.

"What is needed is delivered," says Söder.

The hospitals would also prepare.

Update from March 2, 11:55 a.m .:

The press conference after the Bavarian cabinet meeting will start in less than half an hour.

Prime Minister Markus Söder, Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger, Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and State Chancellery Minister Dr.

Florian Herrmann.

First report from March 2, 10 a.m.:

Munich – All of Bavaria is dismayed by Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Solidarity with Ukraine is huge.

Thousands of people take to the streets every day to demonstrate against Putin and for peace.

Numerous aid convoys* have already made their way to the border to bring women and children to Germany and to deliver donations in kind.

The Ukraine conflict is therefore also the subject of today's cabinet meeting of the Bavarian state parliament.

The second big topic: The upcoming corona loosening.

You can follow the press conference with Prime Minister Markus Söder* (CSU) live here from 12.30 p.m.

Ukraine conflict: Söder's cabinet discusses war aid and corona easing

In the center, the unscheduled deliberations on Wednesday are supposed to be about the war.

On the one hand, it should be about support for the country and its neighboring EU countries, and on the other hand, about the Bavarian preparations for the many refugees who are expected here.

Söder had previously offered Bavaria's support.

With regard to the Corona rules, the Council of Ministers still wants to implement opening decisions of a federal-state meeting in February and adapt the Corona Ordinance accordingly.

Among other things, discotheques and clubs should be allowed to open again this Friday, probably under 2G plus conditions.

In addition, the rules for gastronomy are to be relaxed: In addition to vaccinated and recovered people, people with a negative test should also be admitted here - in other words, the 3G rule should come back.

The seven-day incidence fell significantly in Bavaria on Wednesday.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week in the morning at around 1574, the day before it was 1684.

Ukraine conflict: Söder takes part in a large peace demonstration in Munich

Several thousand people and top politicians are expected to attend a demonstration against Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine on Wednesday evening (6 p.m.) in Munich.

Markus Söder, President of the Landtag Ilse Aigner (both CSU) and Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) want to speak at the rally on Königsplatz.

Top representatives of the Greens, FDP and Free Voters also want to give speeches.

In addition, the Left, ÖDP, the German Federation of Trade Unions and a few other associations and organizations called for the demonstration.

According to the SPD, which initiated the joint action, the consuls general of the USA and Ukraine are also expected.

On political Ash Wednesday, which is otherwise marked by party disputes and mutual insults, the parties are consciously taking a common stand against Russian aggression.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, all parties canceled the usual Ash Wednesday rallies at short notice.
