After FFF comes C4F: The Christians for Future want to anchor climate protection in the church and thus carry it to the outside world.

Now a local group has also been founded in Miesbach.

– The Fridays for Future (FFF) movement has long ceased to consist solely of young people on school strikes, as some critics initially claimed.

On the contrary: Parents, teachers, researchers and students are now taking to the streets to draw attention to the consequences of the climate crisis and the need to combat it.

But religion also provides an approach to sensitize people to the endangerment of our planet.

The Christians for Future (C4F) want to use the connecting element of faith.

They are part of the nationwide FFF alliance and are committed to climate protection, justice, peace and the integrity of creation.

A local group of the C4F was also founded in Miesbach recently.

It was brought to life by the 25-year-old social worker Laura Killer from Miesbach together with her comrades-in-arms Theresa Baumann (23, business economist for nutrition and supply management and youth leader of the Catholic youth in Miesbach) from Miesbach and Nils Konert (19, federal voluntary service provider at the Protestant church). from Irschenberg.

The group currently consists of six dedicated contributors, more are welcome.

Against the background of the Christian faith - whether Protestant or Catholic - the Christians for Future want to preserve the God-given creation, say the three initiators.

Their motivation: to preserve nature for future generations and to live more in harmony with the environment again.

Killer is convinced that the climate catastrophe cannot be solved by strikes alone.

"The crisis must be placed in a cross-generational perspective for society as a whole," demands the 25-year-old.

For this, solutions would have to be worked out in the various areas of society.

Responsibility for creation and climate protection belong together

But what does religion have to do with climate protection?

“God created man and nature – and all of this is one big whole.

A unit that is in balance with each other – or at least should be,” explains Baumann.

Therefore each individual has the responsibility to preserve creation.

“That is a central part of Christian action and work.” Killer agrees, because it is the human being who caused the imbalance in the first place.

The 25-year-old is convinced that the church is exactly the right place to anchor topics such as sustainability and environmental protection.

Faith communities would be made up of many different people who together can make a big difference.

"When everyone starts to rethink and pull together," says Baumann.

The church as an institution, in turn, has a great influence - on individuals, politics and society.

In this way, you can convey messages – also on climate protection.

"The church can serve as a model in many respects, including for the climate and for the integrity of creation," says Konert.

Even if you're not too religious, you have values to live by and goals to pursue.

"For me, climate protection is one of them."

Especially in Upper Bavaria and in the district of Miesbach, most of the citizens are Christian, and many are active in the parishes.

In order to reach them, the Miesbacher C4F rely primarily on public relations.

The group is therefore taking part in the global climate strike on March 25th.

In addition, the initiators are planning a creation day, a climate prayer and a climate cinema over the next few months.
