"Nothing is written": Emmanuel Macron begins his campaign with "humility" and "enthusiasm"

2022-03-04T19:49:54.008Z

The President of the Republic released this Friday the first “episode” of a series on his presidential campaign.

"Nothing is written"

, said Emmanuel Macron in his first video as a presidential candidate, assuring that he was going to

"convince, propose, be attacked and respond to controversy"

during the campaign despite the impact of the war in Ukraine.

For the president, who formalized his candidacy Thursday in a "Letter to the French", the election of April 10 and 24 is

"not at all folded"

even if he is given the winner by all the polls.

"The French do not give their confidence like that,"

he says.

And

"if at every second, we consider that confidence is acquired and that we do not have to question ourselves and go and seek it, to solicit it, at that moment, we lose"

, adds- he in this video posted by the campaign team on the account “Emmanuel Macron with you.

"I must, as a candidate, be able to explain, convince, propose, be attacked, criticized, respond to controversy..."

, he wishes.

This campaign therefore promises, for him,

“as intimidating”

as that of 2017, when he was elected at the age of 39 without ever having exercised a mandate.

The campaign disrupted by the war in Ukraine

In a letter addressed to activists from LREM and the majority, Emmanuel Macron calls on them to mobilize

“in every village, every city”

because, he explains,

“the international context, marked by the war in Europe, does not unfortunately, will not allow me to campaign as I would have liked

.

They are notably called upon to start distributing some 2.5 million leaflets this weekend.

Emmanuel Macron should make a first trip Monday afternoon to Ile-de-France on education, one of the themes on which he insists in his Letter to the French.

If confirmed, a meeting in Marseille, initially scheduled for Saturday, could also be held on the weekend of March 12 and 13, and another, later, in the Paris region.

The Russian-Ukrainian conflict also disrupts the organization of the campaign team.

Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie, tipped to become campaign director, hinted at the Agricultural Show on Friday that he would remain in his post.

To the question

“What will your exact role be in this campaign?”

, he replied:

“I am Minister of Agriculture and Food and in view of the situation, I believe it is important that we can cope, that we can provide all of this support (at the agricultural world) and therefore, as you can see, I am fully at my task".

However, he affirmed his intention to take his

“full part”

as

“a political activist alongside the president in this democratic debate which must be held”.

For his part, the Minister of Overseas Sébastien Lecornu, approached to become a political adviser, should also remain in his post, according to his entourage.

Uncertainty remains for Gabriel Attal, who could go from government spokesperson to that of the candidate.
