Even as a small child, Paloma had to cope with a number of strokes of fate.

Wernigerode – On February 26, Paloma Schilder (27) faces the verdict of the “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” jury and hopes for a ticket in the recall (all news about DSDS can be found on the topic page).

But before she even starts singing, she hits the heart with stories from her past.

Even as a small child, the candidate had to cope with unbelievable strokes of fate, as reported by tz.de.

Paloma Schilder made it into the DSDS recall with two "Yes".

Paloma prepared "Me And Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin for the jury around Florian Silbereisen (40) and, despite one or the other crooked tone, secured a ticket for the recall.

Both Florian Silbereisen (40) and Ilse DeLange (44) heard potential in their voice and sent the 27-year-old to the recall (here is all the information about this year's DSDS jury).

But when Paloma talks about her past before her performance, goosebumps spread.

"Shot while working": death drama with DSDS candidate Paloma

Paloma grew up with her sister in the favelas of Brazil.

There they were surrounded by crime, poverty and violence.

When they were little girls, they lost their mother:

Paloma revealed to the jury.

After spending some time with their uncle, Paloma and her sister ended up in the orphanage and were adopted by a couple from Holland.

At that time, the DSDS candidate was only 14 months old.

But this family did not last long either.

DSDS candidate Paloma struggles with her past

The Dutch couple divorced some time later.

Paloma and her sister then moved to Germany with their adoptive mother.

Today she works here as a waitress.

The numerous strokes of fate were very difficult for Paloma to process: "I no longer have to nibble on my origins, but I had to bite through blatantly – especially during puberty," she says at DSDS.

Music was always her mainstay during this time.
