War in Ukraine: "Give Peace a Chance" by John Lennon broadcast on 150 radio stations to promote peace

A true ode to peace, the song was played as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainians, victims of the Russian invasion since February 24

This Friday, March 4, at 8:45 a.m. (French time): the song “Give Peace a Chance” by John Lennon was broadcast on some 150 radio stations across 25 European countries.

At the origin of the initiative, Union ER (European Broadcasting Union), followed by a few private radio stations.

Ode to peace, the song was broadcast as a sign of solidarity for Ukrainians, victims of the Russian invasion for nine days now.

Yurii Tabachenko, executive producer of Ukrainian radio Channel One, said: “It is extremely important that today Europe is united around Ukraine”.

“The horrors of the war against Ukraine are more evident every day.

Our solidarity, our humanity and our support are needed,” said Patricia Schlesinger, director of the Berlin regional radio station RBB, which initiated the project.

Released in 1969 and performed by the Plastic Ono Band, the track was recorded in Montreal during John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono's famous "bed-in for peace" honeymoon at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

50 years ago, the couple stayed in bed for several weeks to protest the Vietnam War.

Since then, "Give Peace a Chance" has been taken up by many peace movements.

In November 1969, it was massively taken up during a major rally organized in front of the White House against President Nixon's policy in Vietnam.
