Update from March 3, 12:17 a.m .:

The United States Department of Homeland Security announced on Thursday (March 3) that it would extend the residence permit for Ukrainian citizens under the TPS protection program by a further 18 months.

"During these extraordinary times, we will continue to offer our support and protection to Ukrainian nationals in the United States," US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas said Thursday.

However, the regulation does not apply to Ukrainians who travel to the USA after March 1, 2022.

US announces sanctions against numerous Russian oligarchs

Update from March 3, 8:11 p.m .:

Because of the war of aggression against Ukraine, the US government has announced sanctions against numerous Russian oligarchs.

The reason is that those affected continue to support Russian President Vladimir Putin "despite his brutal invasion of Ukraine," the White House said on Thursday.

In addition to oligarchs and their families, the sanctions also affect people from Putin's inner circle, such as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

First report from March 3rd:

Munich – The military conflict in Ukraine is accompanied by diplomatic efforts.

To this end, a meeting for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was held for the first time

on Monday

(February 28) .

On Thursday

(March 3)

, delegations from Ukraine and Russia met again to negotiate the Ukraine conflict*.

In this second round, Kyiv and Moscow have agreed on the establishment of humanitarian corridors, as reported by the AFP news agency, citing Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podoliak.

This is the only result of a second round of talks with Russia, Podoljak said on Twitter after the end of the talks on the Belarusian-Polish border on Thursday.

Before the talks began, Kyiv had called for an immediate ceasefire, among other things.

“The second round of negotiations is over.

Unfortunately, the results that Ukraine* needs have not yet been achieved.

There is only one solution to organizing humanitarian corridors,” Podoljak wrote in his tweet.

Negotiations on the Ukraine war: agreed humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population

Podoljak said the "humanitarian corridors" should also be used to provide the population with food and medicine.

A comprehensive ceasefire is apparently not planned.

"That is, not everywhere, but in the places where there will be these humanitarian corridors, there may be a ceasefire for the duration of this operation," Podoliak said.

At first it was not clear which areas it should be.

Fierce fighting is currently going on in several regions, with the heaviest fighting being reported northwest of the capital Kyiv and near the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and the port city of Mariupol in the south.

The Russian army is trying to advance on several fronts and conquer new territories.

Podoljak was fundamentally dissatisfied with the course of the conversation.

"To our great regret, we did not achieve the results we had hoped for," he said.

"We agreed to continue negotiations in the near future," Podoliak said.

A third round of talks has already been announced.

Ukraine war: Negotiations bring result on humanitarian corridors - political solution discussed

Vladimir Medinski, head of the Russian delegation and assistant to ruler Vladimir Putin*, also confirmed the outcome of the talks.

An agreement was reached on humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population and a temporary ceasefire was discussed, Medinski told Russian media after the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation.

He spoke of a "possible temporary cessation of hostilities" in the relevant areas for the period of the evacuation, making a statement similar to that of the Ukrainian negotiator.

Medinski described this as "significant progress".

"In addition to humanitarian and military issues, Russia and Ukraine also dealt with the prospects of a future political solution," emphasized Medinsky.

“The positions are absolutely clear, they are written down point by point.

We have shown mutual understanding on some of these points,” the Russian official claimed.

He called on civilians in areas of heavy clashes to use the humanitarian corridors.
