The Charité virologist Christian Drosten assesses the situation differently.

podcast "Coronavirus Update", Drosten said that he did not expect an "untamed" corona wave in Germany in the summer, but "you will also be able to get infected with this omicron virus in the summer".

The vaccination progress is not yet sufficient and the infection rate through Omikron is still high.

Accordingly, he also thinks it is advisable to continue wearing masks indoors in summer.

In particular, wearing FFP2 masks indoors is “the most efficient measure of all” in the long term.

"In the virological sense, the pandemic will continue for many years, maybe even decades," a sentence by the epidemiologist Alexander Kekulé, who may shock at first.

“We have made massive economic, social and psychological sacrifices for two years to contain the virus.

With the vaccines, FFP2 masks and rapid tests, everyone now has the opportunity to protect themselves against Covid to some extent and to reduce the risk of severe courses to a reasonable level.” In addition to the mRNA and vector vaccines, there is now also one with Novavax* third alternative.
