Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the need for the United States, NATO and the European Union to engage in dialogue with Russia on an equal basis and to establish a mechanism to ensure security in Europe, noting that Beijing's position on this issue is consistent, as the legitimate security concerns of each country must be respected and adherence to the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter.
During a telephone conversation with his US counterpart, Anthony Blinken, Wang welcomed the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, saying, "China welcomes direct negotiations between the Russian government and the Ukrainian authorities, and rejects the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine and attempts to pour oil on the fire."
"The Ukrainian crisis is complex. It concerns not only the basic parameters of international relations, but also the security interests of all parties to achieve long-term peace and stability in the region," Wang said, calling on the international community to continue support and cooperation until peace is reached.
Regarding Taiwan, Wang again called on the United States to stop supporting the secession of Taiwan and interfering in China's internal affairs, and take concrete measures to protect the general situation of Sino-US relations, stressing the existence of one China in the world and Taiwan as an inalienable part of it.
