Hong Kong people love Japanese food, no matter whether it is sashimi, snacks, or fruits, all of them are very popular.
The latest data from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries shows that in 2021, Hong Kong will become the largest exporter of local agricultural and animal husbandry products (excluding forest products), and the largest overseas market for more than 20 types of Japanese vegetables, sweets, meat, and even tobacco.
However, Hong Kong people's favorite salmon is not among the top three. Looking at the export data of various types of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products from Japan to Hong Kong, what are Hong Kong people's favorite?
In 2021, Japan will export nearly HK$10.2 billion of agricultural and animal husbandry products to Hong Kong, while the export volume of aquatic products including edible and ornamental products to Hong Kong will exceed HK$4.5 billion, ranking first in local exports.
Assuming that all these products are sold in Hong Kong, Hong Kong is the largest overseas market for the above products.
As for forest products such as timber, Hong Kong's imports from Japan are relatively low.
In recent years, Japanese fruits have become very popular. Last year, Hong Kong became the largest export market for local strawberries, peaches and honeydew melons (in terms of value, the same below).
In addition, Hong Kong also imports a large number of vegetables and processed vegetable foods from the local area, including sweet potatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, etc., and frozen vegetables that are easy to store are also on the list.
Due to the ban on dine-in in the evening market due to the epidemic, instant noodles have become the choice for many citizens to store grain. Last year's data showed that Japanese instant noodles were also "buried" by Hong Kong people.
Hong Kong is the largest exporter of Japanese livestock products and the largest overseas market for eggs, chicken, pork and milk.
Among the various types of food imported from Japan, the import volume of eggs was the highest, reaching 22,000 tons last year.
As for aquatic products, tuna, tuna, shark fin, frozen shrimp, and frozen crab are all among the top three export destinations, but salmon, one of Hong Kong's favorite sashimi, is not among the top three.
Under the epidemic, Hong Kong people cannot "return to the countryside", and many people go to Japanese supermarkets to buy snacks to relieve their "nostalgia". Last year, Hong Kong imported a large number of processed seafood from Japan, such as processed scallops and canned sardines, as well as Japanese candy, The main export market for chocolate and ice cream.
In addition, Hong Kong is also the place where Japan exports the most ginseng, pearls, coral, and even cigarettes.
