Private aid organizations have rescued more than a hundred people from distress at sea in the central Mediterranean.

The crew of the "Geo Barents" helped 80 people from a dinghy floating on the sea in the morning, as the organization Doctors Without Borders tweeted.

The Spanish sea rescuers from "Open Arms" said they rescued almost 30 people from an overcrowded wooden boat that was about to sink.

The boat migrants had left the coast of Libya.

Time and again, people from North Africa dare the dangerous crossing towards Italy or Malta to get to the EU because they hope for a better life there.

According to the Italian Ministry of the Interior, as of Thursday, just over 5,470 migrants arrived in boats on the coast of Italy so far this year.

This number is slightly higher than the same period last year (around 5300).
