Following the citrus marketing plan for the current season, a meeting chaired by Engineer Hussein Arnous, Prime Minister, discussed the reality of the marketed quantities so far and the additional facilities necessary to complete the marketing of the remainder of the current season and provide all support to farmers to ensure their rights and deliver the material to consumers at appropriate prices and quality.. Also, studying ways to enhance Citrus export and manufacture locally.

The attendees emphasized the continuation of strengthening the role of the Syrian Trade Corporation in the process of marketing citrus through its halls and outlets for positive intervention in all regions and expanding the establishment of locations for the Corporation in Al-Hal markets in the governorates to ensure the flow of the material and achieve a balance in prices.. Also, improving the work of sorting and packaging centers and making all efforts to export more Possible quantity to foreign markets according to the quality and quality required by foreign markets and strengthening partnership with the General Union of Peasants to expand agricultural investment and provide support to farmers and peasants, in addition to continuing cooperation with private sector activities to market crops.

Arnous stressed the progression of the season’s marketing plan in local markets, ensuring access to citrus markets in friendly countries, and continuing to provide support to the agricultural sector with all its products and varieties, pointing to the need to conduct a census of the areas planted with major trees such as olives and citrus, and the estimated production quantities to ensure the development of policies to market crops internally and externally.

The Prime Minister clarified the importance of developing mechanisms for dealing with agricultural affairs and scientific planning for the management of the sector in order to achieve the best results in quantity and quality in parallel with the expansion of the most productive varieties, considering agriculture as one of the pillars of development, with the extension units and agricultural associations playing their full roles in this context.

While the attendees stressed the importance of early preparation and developing the necessary plan and procedures to market the citrus season for the next year, since the beginning of the season, the governors of Tartous and Lattakia gave a presentation on the reality of citrus marketing in the two governorates, the marketed quantities and the roles required from each side to complete the marketing of the current season.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of local administration, environment, economy, foreign trade, agriculture, agrarian reform, internal trade, consumer protection and finance, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the governor of the Central Bank, the heads of the Peasants' Union in Lattakia and Tartous, and a number of directors of relevant institutions.
