Today, Al-Baath University in Homs honored Dr. Waad Saftli from the University’s Faculty of Science, the winner of the L’Oréal-UNESCO Prize, which was held on the sidelines of Expo 2021 Dubai for emerging Arab women scientists in the Middle East and North Africa for the year 2021 for her project (Studying the evolution of galaxies through the history of the universe).

Dr. Saftali said that the victory constitutes a motivation to continue the path of science that does not stop, noting that her research focused on astronomy and galaxies and understanding the gas of the universe that astonished humanity, explaining that the main goal of the research is to reach a better understanding of the physical processes that control the evolution of galaxies throughout the history of the universe and the establishment of standards New development for the next generation of cosmological numerical simulation models.

Dr. Abdul-Basit Al-Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, pointed out that it is not the first time that Al-Baath University has won this award through its researchers, noting Dr. Saftly's victory among 14 Arab scientists from the Middle East and North Africa region.

For his part, Dr. Rushdi Medawar, Dean of the College of Science at the university, said that Saftali was distinguished in her university studies until she reached this great scientific research in which she studied the movement of galaxies.

It is worth noting that the L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO had held a ceremony honoring the winners of the Rising Researchers Program for Women in Science, in which for the first time 14 Arab women scientists from the Middle East and North Africa were gathered at a center at Expo 2020 Dubai in recognition of their research in areas including life sciences, environment, physics, mathematics and sciences. The ceremony coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in the Field of Science.

It is worth mentioning that the L'Oréal and UNESCO program annually honors a number of distinguished young Arab women researchers for the quality of their research work and encourages them to pursue a valuable career in science in the countries of the Arab Mashreq.

The ceremony of honoring Saftli at the university was attended by Dr. Faiq Shadoud, Secretary of the University Branch of the Party, and a number of Vice Presidents of the University.
