Childminders in Warngau: The explorations are underway

The municipality of Warngau wants to offer another concept for childcare: It makes rooms in the old teacher's house available to childminders.

There are already six applicants.

– Small groups with a family-like structure and a diverse mix of age groups, from babies to schoolchildren: the municipality of Warngau wants to add another offer to childcare with a large-scale day care.

The project is gradually taking on more concrete forms: so far there have been six serious applicants who can imagine looking after children as independent childminders in the old teacher's house next to the elementary school in Oberwarngau, which the municipality has made available, reports the project manager in of the municipality, Third Mayor Andrea Anderssohn, on request.

It's been a good month since the municipality and the district office organized an online information evening.

19 participants attended the meeting and obtained detailed information on how to become a childminder.

"We didn't expect that," says Anderssohn about the response, "we were very satisfied." In the meantime, six serious applicants have emerged from the group of participants and other interested parties who can actually well imagine taking the step into self-employment as childminders.

A motley crew, with career changers who want to qualify for the new job with the required 160-hour course, and childcare specialists.

Childminders should work independently

The previous applicants are currently in the identification phase: They get to know each other, discuss their ideas, sort out who could work with whom.

A very important process, which should take place without time pressure, explains Anderssohn: "After all, they are looking for a partner, so to speak." A business partner, in other words.

Because the municipality only provides the premises in the teacher's house for the large day care.

"The rent is more symbolic," says Anderssohn.

The childminders are not employed or employed on a minor basis - they should be their own boss as self-employed.

At least two childminders are needed for the facility to run, as is already being done in facilities in Holzkirchen and Fischbachau.

However, the municipality of Warngau is looking for three.

The door is not yet closed for other applicants: anyone who is interested in looking after children in large day care as a childminder can contact the municipality and Anderssohn.

Three childminders are wanted

A maximum of ten children are cared for at the same time by the childminders in the group, with up to 16 childcare relationships that the parents conclude directly with the childminders.

The great charm that such tandems or trios offer parents compared to "lone fighters": If the childminder is absent, for example due to illness, the customers - i.e. the parents, who are often dependent on the booked care time for their children - are not available suddenly there without care because the "companions" in the large day care can easily step in.

More than three childminders have not been considered at least so far.

They should also be found - after all, there are enough "customers" available: There is no doubt in the municipality that there is a need for large-scale day care.

From crèche to after-school care child.

Large day care in Warngau is scheduled to start in autumn.

Until then, the former teachers' residence still has to be made fit for its new task.

The municipality seeks the advice of a specialist for this.

Renovations are pending.

So far, Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber did not expect too much effort or higher costs because there are significantly fewer structural demands on the rooms for childcare than for municipal childcare facilities.

But that will soon have to be discussed in the municipal council, announces Anderssohn.
