The cows are moved because in winter they cannot walk in the muddy soil in their pasture in Binyamina. "Before any such transfer there are butterflies in the stomach, will there be cows that will run away?" Told the veteran farmer, the owner of the herd that was transferred. He added: "There is excitement, here and there there are those who grumble through a cow's poop, but it is organic"

These sights can be seen in Binyamina only twice a year.

The cattle herd of veteran farmer Yehiam Altshuler crossed the colony yesterday (Saturday).

The semi-annual event is a local tradition that has attracted dozens of curious people in recent years, also and perhaps especially from the yuppie residents who have moved to live in the community.

"Before any such transfer there are butterflies in the stomach, how will it be, what will happen, will there be cows that will run away, what will not. During the event there is excitement, especially because we all join, both boys and grandchildren. Said Yehiam Altushler, the owner of the herd of cows that was transferred.

"Here and there there are those who grumble their way through a cow's poop, but it's organic," he said.

The Altshuler family, one of the founders of Binyamina, is a family of farmers.

Yehiam Altushler is a follower of the grandfather Shammai Altshuler and his father Rehavia Altshuler - a graduate of Mikve Israel, active in the defense, one of the founders of the minority unit and one of the first cowboys in the State of Israel.

He was also a member of delegations that traveled to bring cattle to Israel from Turkey and Yugoslavia, which served as the base for the Israeli cattle herd for meat.

"The cows are the hallmarks of this colony," Yehiam Altshuler tells Walla!

At the end of the traditional relocation operation.

"In the days of Grandpa Shammai Altshuler, in the beginning of the colony, almost every family had at least one cow. A shepherd would go out with them all in the morning and return them to the families before sunset," he says.

Over the years, the colony has had partnerships with Kibbutz Ein Zvi, the Hula cattle and a covered farm of attorney Salomon, but the colony has always had a private herd that grazes in a swamp in the summer in a place called "Meadow Binyamina" - where there is green grass all year round.

"Pasture land is always in short supply and in winter the soil is too muddy and the cows can not walk there, so we move them to the Carmel and Ramat Hanadiv area, until the summer, then we will return them," he explains.

Semi-annual tradition.

Yehiam Altshuler, 74, was born a month before the state and was named after a commander in the Palmach who was killed in the explosion of the a-Zib bridge on the night of the bridges. He is a father of five, a grandfather of 13 grandchildren

"I have been blessed with a next generation with Omar and Nir HaBanim, and I hope that grandchildren will also continue the tradition," he says. Said.

Yehiam explained that he is worried about the future of agriculture in general and that of Binyamina in particular. "Everyone came because of us and suddenly today we farmers are a little bothered by them.

There are a lot of difficulties - the railways, the roads, reduce our areas and there are conflicts when we do not always look at our business in a beautiful way, "he said, adding -" We are optimistic people, there is pride in being farmers. "
