Thousands march in Moscow capital protesting Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling for end to war • Police respond to violence and arrests, and protesters

Thousands marched across Russia today (Sunday) in protest of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and calls on the Kremlin to end its military aggression.

The police in the country was held in advance for oppression of demonstrations and operated hard violence against the demonstrators.

According to news agency reports, more than 3,500 people were arrested by police across Russia, with the protest center in the capital Moscow, where thousands gathered near the Kremlin and marched.

The human rights organization OVD has announced that more than 10,000 people have been arrested for their joy against the invasion since it began on February 24.

Demonstrations took place in 49 different cities across Russia, from St. Petersburg in the North Sea to Vladivostok on the Pacific coast.

According to the Russian news agency TAS, at least 1,700 people were arrested during demonstrations in the city of Moscow and another 700 were arrested while demonstrating in the city of St. Petersburg.

A video posted on social media in the country shows a boy demonstrator in the city of Khabarovsk shouting at the police, "Aren't you ashamed? Enough of the war."

The police used speakers and read to protesters: "Dear citizens, you participate in the activity that is not legal, we demand that you will disperse."

In another video, coming from the city of Yekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains, a demonstrator is seen beaten with clubs by six policemen when one of them kicks him in the face.

The protester was beaten to bloodshed.

The protesters responded to the call of the imprisoned opposition man, Alexei Navalny, to come out and protest against the war.

"Because of Putin, Russia's name is now linked to the war in our country's culture in the world. It is wrong. It is Putin, not Russia, that has attacked Ukraine," the leader wrote in his call to the masses.

Mass protests have taken place around the world against the continuation of the Russian offensive in Ukraine.

In the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan, more than 2,000 people gathered in protest of the war, a rare demonstration in a country that suffered a wave of violent protests earlier this year and is considered a close ally of Putin's regime.

A large demonstration against the Russian invasion also took place in Serbia, another ally of Moscow.
