A massive fight broke out in the stands of a soccer game in Mexico this Saturday and left at least 26 people injured, two of whom are in serious condition.

The Liga MX match between Querétaro and Atlas was suspended in the second half due to fights at the La Corregidora stadium.

According to Mauricio Kuri, governor of the state of Querétaro, 24 men and two women were injured.

Of those, Kuri said 10 suffered minor injuries and three were considered in "critical" condition.

Photos from the match show fans, some of whom are bloodied, fighting on the pitch and in the stands, punching each other and hitting objects.

"Inadmissible and regrettable the violence in the Corregidora stadium in Querétaro. Those responsible for the lack of security in the stadium will be punished in an exemplary manner," said Mikel Arriola, executive president of Liga MX.

“We strongly condemn the events that occurred today at the Corregidora stadium,” the Querétaro club said in a statement.

“We are in communication and coordination with the authorities so that they act promptly against those responsible for these events.

As an institution we condemn violence of any kind.

We will keep updating."

Atlas, the reigning Liga MX champion, was leading 1-0 when the match was abandoned.

"Atlas FC regrets and condemns the events that occurred at the Corregidora stadium," the club said in a statement.

Authorities give details of injuries after violence in Querétaro and Atlas match 1:51

“Football should promote values ​​and fun for the whole family.

We ask the corresponding authorities, the BBVA Mexico league and the FMF (Mexican Football Federation), to investigate thoroughly to the last consequences, determine the responsibilities of those involved and apply the full force of the law.

The FMF said this Saturday that an investigation was opened into the events that occurred during the game to "analyze and determine what appropriate measures should be taken."

Liga MX president Mikel Arriola also said the remaining games of the league's ninth round scheduled for Sunday were postponed in solidarity with those affected by the incidents in Querétaro.
