An infant a little over a month old died from his severe injuries in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic.

The father is an urgent suspect - and is now in custody.

Update from March 6, 6:53 a.m.:

A little over a month in which the little girl has already bonded with her parents and sister.

In which it may have already shown its first smile.

It was allowed to live for a little over a month.

Until the unbelievable events on Monday.

The baby is dead, apparently killed at the hands of its own father.

"Investigators are currently assuming that the fatal injuries were caused by violent shaking and blunt force to the head," says police chief inspector Martin Emig, spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South.

The 25-year-old is now in custody.

Oberammergau: Baby comes to the clinic – “dead despite all medical efforts”

The lifeless child was discovered in a decentralized accommodation for asylum seekers in Oberammergau.

The police, referring to the investigation, did not comment on who found the girl, whose parents and sister fled from the Republic of Moldova to Germany when she was in kindergarten.

The rescue service, which was called immediately, took the child to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic with ongoing resuscitation.

"The girl died there in the evening despite all medical efforts," says Emig.

According to a message from the hospital, the permanent criminal service of the Weilheim Criminal Police Inspectorate initially took over the investigation to clarify the cause of death.

As a result, they continued the Kripo Garmisch-Partenkirchen under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.

The whole thing is also “very stressful” for the colleagues, emphasizes Emig.

"Something like that doesn't leave anyone cold."

An autopsy ordered by the investigating judge on the dead infant provided clear indications that the child died as a result of violence.

This strengthened the suspicion against the 25-year-old father of the girl.

After further investigations by the criminal police, the public prosecutor's office applied for an arrest warrant against him on the grounds of strong suspicion of a homicide, which was issued by the competent investigating judge in accordance with the application.

The Moldovan national was taken to a correctional facility.

Baby dies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: "Now it's time to work out the motive for the crime"

"Now it's time to work out the motive for the crime," explains the police spokesman.

For example, bodily harm resulting in death or negligent bodily harm are in the room.

In addition to the mother of the little girl, the other residents of the asylum accommodation are also questioned.

According to Emig, corresponding investigations are also being carried out in the family's apartment.

The government of Upper Bavaria is responsible for accommodation in Oberammergau.

"The unexpected death of the infant also touched and affected our employees and the employees of our accommodation service provider on site," says spokesman Wolfgang Rupp.

"After the child's death, we informed the social-psychiatric emergency service.

Until his arrival, the local administration looked after the family.”

In addition, the refugee and integration counseling is available if required for individual support of the family and the residents.

But even he does not understand the terrible events in connection with the asylum or accommodation situation.

The police investigation must reveal how the horrible act could have happened.
