Ukraine's ambassador to Israel, Yevgen Kornichuk, said at a press conference today (Monday) that the mediation efforts of Israelis are more important than weapons.

"We thank the Israeli government for the effort to mediate between us and Russia. This is important even if the chances are low. It is more important than weapons," Kornichuk said.

He added that "our government sees Jerusalem as a possible place for negotiations with Russia."

At one point in the press conference, the ambassador wore a helmet and protested that Israel does not send protective equipment to Ukraine. "Why does Israel not provide us with helmets?

During Saturday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett secretly went to Moscow and discussed with Putin for about three hours fighting in Ukraine and the possibility of a ceasefire.

A political source said that Israel had updated the United States, Germany and France on Bennett's trip, and was in ongoing dialogue with Ukraine on the issue.

According to the source, the prime minister also spoke with the Russian president about the situation of Israelis and Jewish communities as a result of the conflict.

From Moscow he left for Berlin, where he met Chancellor Olaf Schultz, who visited Israel last week.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, Bennett also spoke twice with Zalansky throughout the night, after meeting with Putin, and also spoke with French President Macron.

He landed in Israel yesterday and has since spoken with Zalanski for the third time, and has also had further talks with Putin, Schultz and Macron.
