Surprise succeeded: The fire brigades from the Bad Heilbrunn and Wackersberg municipal areas said goodbye to District Fire Chief Georg Lettner on Friday evening with blue lights and sirens, gifts and speeches.
Bad Heilbrunn – Georg Lettner had prepared for a quiet evening with his wife and a few guests.
But then the outgoing district fire chief experienced a surprise when he turned into the parking lot in front of the Heilbrunner Gasthaus Reindlschmiede: 50 firefighters were waiting for him there in front of eleven fire engines with flashing lights and switched on sirens to celebrate his farewell with him.
"I'm overwhelmed, words fail me," said the 65-year-old in his improvised farewell speech.
In 1974 Georg Lettner joined the fire brigade
Lettner was responsible for all fire brigades in the Bad Heilbrunn and Wackersberg municipal areas.
Thomas Gründl paid tribute to the merits of the long-standing district fire chief: "I wasn't even born when he joined the fire department in 1974," said the mayor with a smile.
When Lettner became group leader in 1983, Gründl was just celebrating his seventh birthday.
In 1998, Lettner then took over the duties of train driver, association leader and district fire chief.
The two worked together for 14 years.
"That was outstanding," said Gründl.
"Schorsch always saw the fire department, but also the tasks of the municipality." As a thank you, Gründl presented the district fire chief with a wellness voucher for 600 euros, jointly financed by the municipalities of Bad Heilbrunn and Wackersberg.
