Minister of Education Michael Piazolo offers schools support for dealing with the war in Ukraine.

What is important now is “a lot of tact”.

Munich – “The war in Ukraine is a heavy burden for all of us.

Every day we are flooded with an abundance of terrible news and images from the war region.

Our thoughts are with the people in the war zone and also with those who had to leave their home country for fear of their lives,” said Minister of Education Piazolo in a press release from the Ministry of Education on Monday, March 7th.

According to the press release on dealing with the war in Bavarian schools, the pictures from the Ukraine move people all over the world.

They are deeply affecting and trigger fears that were previously unknown to many of us.

In Bavarian schools, too, the armed conflict in Eastern Europe is taken up in the classroom and discussed in talks and discussions.

The Ministry of Education supports all Bavarian schools, it is said.

War in Ukraine: Refugee children should be taught locally

The crisis intervention and management team of Bavarian school psychologists (KIBBS) has prepared an information letter with recommendations on how the school family can deal with the difficult current situation regarding the Ukraine war.

It contains various contacts for students, teachers and parents with the relevant telephone numbers and helpful links.

The Ministry of Education is also planning to give the children and young people who have fled Ukraine lessons as close to the local schools as possible.

"We will take the children and young people from the Ukraine into the appropriate classes for refugees throughout Bavaria.

We won't leave them alone,” Piazolo promises.

School: Dealing with the war responsibly with the children

Secretary of State for Education Anna Stolz adds: "We are deeply affected by the great suffering of the people in Ukraine and must offer help within the scope of our possibilities.

In this phase we have to be there for our children in particular, because the many painful images can also be very stressful for our students.

That 's why

we have to treat the topic carefully in the schools and allow the necessary time for discussions with the questions, worries and fears of our students."

The Bavarian State Center for Political Education (BLZ) and the State Institute for School Quality and Educational Research (ISB) therefore provide background information and materials that are intended to support teachers in dealing with the topic of the Ukraine war together with their students in a responsible, situation- and age-appropriate manner of political education to deal with.

Piazolo: Teachers speak about the war with sensitivity

"We hope and pray that things will get back to normal for them as soon as possible.

Of course, our teachers take up this ubiquitous topic in the various subjects and integrate it into the lessons.

I would like to thank all teachers for being important confidants for our students in these difficult times and for speaking sensitively and with great sensitivity about this difficult topic," says the Minister of Education.
