With his firm will, Issa Dhawa was able to overcome lung cancer with a high recovery rate despite the arduous treatment journey, stressing in a statement to SANA the importance of the national campaign for early detection of cancer and raising awareness of the need to review medical centers to detect this disease in order to be cured.

Dawa, who is over sixty years old, stressed the importance of early reviewing medical centers and conducting the necessary tests for early detection of cancer, reviewing his painful experience with this disease, as he was able to overcome lung cancer despite its full spread in his throat and the presence of brain damage, after a treatment trip long and painful.

The son of the village of Banamra in Sheikh Badr in the Tartous countryside confirmed that his strong determination, determination to live, and his armament with hope and optimism prompted him to accept the news of his illness with satisfaction after feeling tired and pain in the chest area and shortness of breath, so that the results of the tests showed that they were positive and that he had lung cancer.

He indicated that he received radiological and chemotherapy at Tishreen University Hospital, where the medical staff provided him with all kinds of necessary services, in addition to conducting a periodic evaluation every 3 months due to the wide spread of the disease.

Dawa said: “After my 80 percent recovery, and due to the effects of doses and rays, I lost my hair and developed osteoporosis. I lost my ability to walk, and it was the most difficult stage of treatment, but at the same time I did not lose my resolve to fully recover because my family and loved ones were by my side, who helped me to follow the treatment stages and motivate me to get rid of disease and recover from it completely.

Dawa stressed the necessity of permanent follow-up of all cancer patients for treatment and adherence to medical instructions to reach the stage of full recovery, adding, “My spirits during the illness period were so high that I insisted on treatment despite its difficulty due to the spread of the disease completely in the throat and the presence of damage in the brain region.”

The national campaign includes early detection tests for “cervical, breast and prostate” cancers. It was launched by the National Cancer Control Program in Syria on the 2nd of this month in various governorates, where it started in Tartous governorate and lasts for one month in each governorate.
