Russia's war against Ukraine has been going on for twelve days.

According to civil rights activists, more than 4,400 people have been arrested in Russia during new demonstrations against the war in Ukraine.

2,035 of them were arrested in the capital, Moscow, and 1,150 more in the Baltic Sea metropolis of St. Petersburg, the Owd-Info organization said late on Sunday evening.

Overall, there were protests in more than 60 Russian cities.

The Interior Ministry had previously spoken of around 5,200 participants nationwide and more than 3,500 arrests at the unauthorized rallies.

"No to war!"

Jailed Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny's team posted videos on YouTube, including one of a group of elderly women shouting "No to war!"

According to Owd-Info, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began a week and a half ago, around 13,000 people have been arrested during protests critical of the Kremlin in Russia.

According to the authorities, a prisoner transporter in which 24 arrested demonstrators and 5 police officers were sitting crashed in Moscow in the afternoon.

It said nine people were injured, including six civilians.

Pictures on social networks showed a completely destroyed vehicle.

It was initially unclear how the accident happened.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly cracked down on demonstrators critical of the Kremlin.

Since the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine, several thousand people have been arrested in the largest country in the world by area, according to Owd-Info.

Hundreds of thousands of people around the world protested against the Russian invasion on Saturday.

Several thousand people gathered in Paris and Zagreb, tens of thousands of demonstrators were reported from Hamburg and Zurich, and thousands took part in a peace procession in Rome.

There were also demonstrations outside of Europe: Thousands of people took to the streets in the US east coast metropolis of New York.
