There is a dispute about the golf course in Thalkirchen.

The city wants to extend the lease for the Munich golf club.

But there is criticism against it.

Munich - The golf course in Thalkirchen remains a hot potato.

On Thursday, the municipal committee of the Munich City Council is expected to approve a lease extension.

But there is resistance to this – not only in the city council.

Munich: Thalkirchen golf course was previously part of the Hinterbrühl park landscape

Background: The 140,000-hectare site belongs to the city.

Until the 1950s, the area was open to the public as part of the Hinterbrühl park and natural landscape.

But the city leased the site to the Munich Golf Club (MGC).

The lease was extended by 25 years in 1999.

Now it expires.

In the meantime, both the SPD and the CSU in the city council had submitted applications for a further extension.

Meanwhile, Die Linke/Die Party would like to give the site back to the people of Munich.

In September 2020, the parliamentary group submitted an application requesting that the city integrate the area into the Upper Isar Valley conservation area and upgrade it as a valuable natural and recreational area.

According to the parliamentary group in Straßlach, the golf club has another golf course area - so its existence will not be endangered by the loss in Munich.

The Munich Forum Association wants to give back the area of the Thalkirchen golf course to the citizens

The Munich Forum association is also opposed to a contract extension and has therefore already sent several letters to the administration.

"It is certainly a unique event that a city leases a plot of land for almost 70 years for a privileged use as a golf course that excludes the general public," says club member Klaus Bäumler.

After all, the area is a natural area close to the city that could be used by the citizens from the beginning of the 20th century until the 1950s.
