On International Women's Day, the counseling center for women's emergency calls attention to their offers with a handkerchief campaign: In the pharmacies there are packets of tissues that say "Full of violence?" and the number of the women's emergency number.

County

– Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day.

23 pharmacies in the district want more than 2,400 packets of handkerchiefs with the slogan "Fed up with violence?

Get support!” distributed to their customers.

This public campaign provides information about the help offered by the counseling center for women, based in Herrsching.

"It is intended to encourage those affected to get support, but also to encourage society to offer help," says the advice center.

The counseling center has found that dominance violence in partnership affects women regardless of their social status, cultural background or age.

Seeking help is not always easy.

"Violence against women ranges from verbal abuse and intimidation to physical assault and rape," the statement said.

The employees of the women's emergency hotline offer confidential, free and, if desired, anonymous advice in a protected setting.

The counseling center provides support for women who have been affected by domestic or sexualised violence and stalking, as well as their children.

Relatives, private or professional helpers can also call z (0 81 52) 57 20 for support.

In order to reach women affected by violence and their children close to home, external consultation hours are offered every Tuesday: every first Tuesday of the month in Gilching in the mother-child house (Rosenstrasse 16), every second Tuesday in Tutzing in the outpatient nursing department (Bräuhausstrasse 3), every third Tuesday in Starnberg in the Child Protection Association (Söckinger Straße 25) and in Gauting every fourth Tuesday in Gautinger Insel (Grubmühlerfeldstraße 10).

International Women's Day, which is even a public holiday in Berlin, has its roots in the working class movement of the late 19th century.

Since then, this day has been dedicated to equal rights for women and men in the labor market, against discrimination and for women's suffrage.

"In 1858, the first women in the textile industry in the USA campaigned for equal wages," reports the women's emergency hotline.

"They got only a fraction of what men were paid for the same work." Women's rights activists like Clara Zetkin fought for the introduction of International Women's Day, which began in Germany in 1911.

The difference in average gross earnings between men and women is now known as the “gender pay gap”.

In 2020, that gap was still 18 percent,

In addition to other factors, the financial independence of a person can represent a key protection criterion for women in violent relationships.

This is one of the reasons why the counselors want to step into the public eye, especially on International Women's Day.

"We would like to thank the pharmacies in our district for their support," writes the Frauennotruf.

"Because violence in general and violence against women in particular should no longer have a place in modern society." .

The nationwide help line for violence against women can be reached around the clock and free of charge on 0 8000/11 60 16.
