To the sounds of harp and flute, the Gilching Music School bid farewell to its longtime headmaster Roland Siegel.

The board and staff of the school as well as Mayor Manfred Walter attended the event.

Siegel directed the fortunes of the school for 34 years.

The new principal Dr.

Bernhard Huber is already looking forward to the tasks ahead.

Gilching

- "Even before I graduated from high school, I knew that I wanted to be a music school director.

That really was my dream job.

In addition, of course, I turned my hobby of music into my job," says Siegel.

"The best thing about the job is to accompany children and young people in their musical development." He has worked as a music teacher since 1976 and headed the music school in Gilching for over 34 years.

Siegel gave piano, trombone and violin lessons.

“A special moment was moving into the new school building on Römerstrasse.

We finally had plenty of space,” remembers Siegel.

The position of head teacher is taken over by Dr.

Bernhard Huber.

Planegger was previously deputy head of the Grünwald music school for 17 years and is looking forward to working with the staff.

His subjects are in particular cello and chamber music.

As a qualified music teacher, he also knows about the immense advantages of musical education: “I am convinced of the importance of music.

It promotes personality development in young people and contributes to community building in society as a whole.

There are really great concepts such as cross-generational concerts with seniors and young people.” Huber wants to run the music school in a needs-based manner – that is, do everything that is necessary.

The farewell event on Monday morning began around 9.30 a.m. with a piece of music performed on harp and flute – Siegel's favorite combination.

Johannes Riedel then thanked Siegel for his work on behalf of the entire board of the music school.

"Even if we didn't always agree, it was great fun working with you," Riedel summarized the time.

Mayor Manfred Walter joined the thanksgiving to Siegel - on behalf of the entire municipality of Gilching.

"Music is so important, it brings cooperation into the community," emphasized Walter.

The new building for the music school that they realized together was the greatest success of Siegel's long career, according to Walter.

The college also thanked Siegel for his successful management and the good cooperation.

As a small thank you, the music teachers gave Siegel a travel voucher for the island of Heligoland – a travel destination that Siegel had been aiming for for a long time.

In his own speech, Siegel thanked the school board, the mayor and the municipality, the teaching staff and especially his wife – he would have missed lunch several times because of all the work or would have stayed in the office forever in the evening.

He also wished his successor Huber all the best for the future.

The official part ended to the renewed sounds of harp and flute, those present exchanged ideas and reminisced.
