Mandiant finally passes under the control of Google.
While at the beginning of the year, information evoked the interest of Microsoft, it is another technological giant which gets its hands on this cybersecurity company, specialized in investigation and incident response, for 5.4 billions of dollars.
Since its split with FireEye - which revealed the Solarwinds affair to the world at the end of 2019 - Mandiant had become a prime target.
By acquiring this player, Google is strengthening its security offer for its cloud division, by beefing up the incident response and remediation component.
It is thus seeking to catch up with its major competitor Microsoft in this crucial segment for companies and organizations, in a context of explosions of cyberattacks and heightened tensions since the war in Ukraine.
In January, Google Cloud had already purchased Siemplify for $500 million.
The latter has developed a platform allowing companies to better detect and react to security incidents in an automated way.
With Mandiant, the Mountain View company is taking a giant leap forward.
