On March 8th, the city of Regensburg also celebrates International Women's Day.

These actions are planned.

Regensburg - Purple is the color of feminism and emancipation - and so the city of Regensburg shines in this color on March 8th, International Women's Day.

As the city writes in a press release, the Theater am Bismarckplatz and the Danube shopping center will be illuminated in purple as a sign of equality.

Despite - or perhaps because of - the Corona situation, there are a particularly large number of lectures and events in Regensburg this year relating to International Women's Day, which will be celebrated for the 111th time in 2022.

For the most part, however, these should take place in digital or hybrid format.

The Theater Regensburg not only sets an example with the purple lighting, the topic should also be reflected in the schedules, the cast and the productions, as the artistic director Klaus Kusenberg explains: "Starting with 'Peer Gynt (she/her)' via the From 'The Threepenny Opera' to 'Turandot'” they want to live the fight for equality “all year round and keep it in society's consciousness”.

On March 8th (was it already?) the Greens faction of the city of Regensburg also organized a "Feminist Bike Tour".

Kathrin Kunkel-Razum gave a lecture on gender-fair language.

International Women's Day in Regensburg: Corona pandemic primarily harms women

"Women must finally be given the visibility they deserve," comments Regensburg Mayor Getrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer.

The "balancing act that many women still have to do in order to combine private life, work and career" should "not be taken for granted".

Mayor Maltz-Schwarzfischer sees it as particularly shameful that Germany only occupies tenth place in the European equality ranking.

The Corona crisis "made this painfully clear".

As the statement states, the corona pandemic has presented women in particular with major challenges.

They are still juggling the burden of work, child care and nursing.

Even without children, women spend a third more time on care work and household than men, while at the same time earning significantly less.

The so-called gender pay gap was also a central topic at this year's Equal Pay Day, which took place on March 7, 2022.

In this context, the Regensburg action alliance Qual Pay Day invites you to an interactive online event entitled “Equal Pay 4.0 – living and designing digital working environments together” on March 10 at 7 p.m.
