The Querétaro club will have to play its home games without an audience for a year due to violence during a soccer match that left more than 20 people injured, the president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) said on Tuesday. ), Yon de Luisa.

In addition, the Querétaro fan will not be able to attend the team's home games for three years and the visiting games for one year.

"It was verified that the sanctions notified to the Querétaro club is for one year, playing all the games at home behind closed doors, regardless of the venue where it takes place," said De Luisa at a joint press conference with the president of the MX League, Mikel Arriola.

On Saturday, during the match between the teams Querétaro and the current champion Atlas, fans of both teams started a fight in the stadium's stands that led hundreds of fans, including families with children, to invade the field trying to get to safety and fleeing from a fight that was increasing in intensity.

Both De Luisa and Arriola announced that they will begin issuing credentials to the barristas, known locally as "animation groups," as a measure to have them identified.

"What we want are animation groups, we don't want criminals disguised as animation groups. The current protocol does not have the ability to determine who is in the animation groups and to reinforce it we need to know who they are," Arriola said.

In addition to the veto punishment, the current administration of the Querétaro club was banned for five years from any activity in Mexican soccer.

"The original owner of the administration rights takes control of the club on the condition that he put it up for sale with a term until 2023. The sale process is open. How much would it cost? We are doing the calculations, but it would be a very important," Arriola said.

Jorge Hank, who also owns the Tijuana club, is the original rights holder for Querétaro.

The Querétaro club also received an economic sanction of 1.5 million pesos (about 71,000 dollars).
