With a collective bargaining agreement and wage increases over several years, the hospitality industry wants to become more attractive again.

Some who have reoriented themselves during the pandemic are to be won back.

Erfurt - Around 30,000 employees in Thuringia's hospitality industry will receive more money from April.

In a first step, their pay is to increase by eight percent, as the Thuringian hotel and restaurant association (Dehoga) and the union for food, enjoyment, restaurants (NGG) announced on Tuesday in Erfurt.

A graduated collective agreement has been agreed with a term until the end of April 2024. During this period, pay improvements totaling 22.5 percent are planned in annual stages.

The agreement with increasing wages also serves to secure skilled workers, although the hospitality industry is still at a low in sales after the restrictions in the corona pandemic, the wage-bargaining parties explained.

The collective agreement is also a reaction to the high inflation rate, which also affects employees in the catering and hotel industries.

The further stages provide for a further increase in remuneration of 8.5 percent for the beginning of October 2022.

Further steps were agreed in April and October 2023, each with a plus of three percent.

Training allowances are also set to increase - in steps up to 1150 euros per month in the third year of training.

This means that the starting salary for unskilled workers in October of this year will be EUR 12.30 per hour and will then increase in two stages to EUR 13.05 per hour in October 2023, according to the statement.

For skilled workers, the starting wage in October is 13.20 euros per hour.

This means that the basic wage after the last level is 2424 euros per month.

It is important that the hospitality industry remains attractive as an employer, said Dehoga President Mark Kühnelt.

He asked customers and guests for their understanding of the resulting price adjustments in the companies.

During the pandemic and especially the lockdown periods, many hospitality workers had sought job opportunities in other industries.
