An individual placed in police custody at the police station in the 11th arrondissement of Paris violently assaulted a policewoman on Monday March 7,

This individual had been arrested and placed in police custody for an attempted extortion with a weapon in the Paris metro, we are told.

Once in police custody, the police officer accompanied the respondent to the toilets, at his request.
The latter then turned around, gave her an armbar, put her on the ground and strangled her.
The official lost consciousness but the individual continued to strangle her, trying to seize her service weapon, before a colleague came to her aid and then overpowered the individual.
After regaining consciousness, the victim was transported to the hospital by the firefighters without vital prognosis.
The suspect had already assaulted another official, headbutting him, during his search.
The respondent is in his twenties and already has a criminal record.
His identity is uncertain: he says he was born in Algeria but gives two different identities.
He was to be tried in immediate appearance on Tuesday March 8 for "
intentional violence against a person holding public authority
" and "
carrying a weapon
", the qualification of "
attempted intentional homicide against a person holding public authority
" ultimately not accepted.
The case was returned to Tuesday April 12 at the Paris Criminal Court.
While awaiting trial, the suspect has been remanded in custody.
