Not only people are looking for a home in Baden-Württemberg after fleeing the Ukraine.
Your four-legged friends also need shelter - at least temporarily.
Stuttgart - The number of war refugees from Ukraine coming to Baden-Württemberg is increasing every day.
More than 1,000 people seeking protection have now been admitted to initial reception centers (as of March 7).
Many people do not come alone.
Again and again one sees what is most dear to the fugitives under jackets, in baskets or wrapped in sheets: their pets.
The problem: People are usually only allowed to take their four-legged friends with them to the refugee accommodation in exceptional cases, as BW24* reports.
So that the dogs, cats and small animals that came to Germany on the run have a roof over their heads, relief operations are calling for the animals to be taken care of.
Anyone who wants to temporarily take in a pet that has fled Ukraine can register
with the
German Animal Welfare Association.
The website
haustier-info-ukraine.de also
takes care of finding helpers and animals.
The offer is aimed at people who live in Germany and are willing to temporarily take in a pet.
Pets from Ukraine refugees are not allowed in the refugee home: "Sorry that no one is considerate"
The website of the pet agency also searches for veterinarians who offer free advice, treatment or medication for refugees and their pets.
In addition, the agency is looking for translators who speak Ukrainian or Russian.
After the link to the pet agency was posted in a Facebook group from Baden-Württemberg, members there reacted with mixed reactions.
Many cannot understand that animals are not allowed in the refugee shelters.
"It's very sad that there is no consideration for the refugees," writes a Facebook user.
"Animals are like family." Someone else says, "The situation is bad enough - people need their pets to hold on to."

The city is already looking for apartments for Ukraine refugees.
