As a balance to her job: Michaela Langner has expanded her hobby into an online shop.

Under the name "Fräuleinela", the woman from Reichersbeur offers handmade items.

Reichersbeuern – Creativity is rarely asked for in Michaela Langner's day-to-day work.

As a prison officer, the 27-year-old has to adhere to strict rules in order to maintain security in the women's wing of Stadelheim prison.

In her free time, she needed a free-spirited balance.

Her hobby, handicrafts, has now even become a small business.

The young mother from Reichersbeuern has been running an online shop for handmade accessories, decorative items and gift ideas since November last year.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.

When Basten, Michaela Langner can switch off from everyday life

"Fräuleinela" is what Michaela Langner called her heart's project, as she says about her shop.

"I've always loved crafting in my life.

I have a big box at home and wherever I found something great for crafting, I immediately took it with me," she says in an interview with our newspaper.

"I can let off steam so creatively and really switch off from everyday life," she says.

In "normal" life she works part-time in the prison in Stadelheim

She wasn't bored at all.

Normally, Langner has his hands full.

After all, she works part-time in Munich's Stadelheim prison, has a little daughter and, incidentally, the family is currently building a house.

"Even if that's all a lot, I realized that I needed something for myself," explains the 27-year-old.

She actually found this in the expansion of her small business.

"I can pursue my hobby this way, and it was also fun to expand the shop," she reports.

And anyway: "If you then see that people are interested in the things I've made and buy them, that's good," says Langner.

Handmade greeting cards, cosmetic bags, key rings and more.

On average, she devotes eight hours a week to her "Fräuleinela".

But that also varies depending on the volume of orders.

Soon after the shop opened, she noticed that her handmade greeting cards, cosmetic bags, key chains and the like were well received: "I really got a lot of orders before Christmas," she says happily.

As a sample, she always has five pieces in stock from the range.

"I print everything individually, for example with the desired name and data," reports Langner.

She even bought a special machine for this.

"I always thought it was nice to give individual gifts with names, so I gradually expanded it," says the woman from Reichersbeur.

She already has customers all over Germany

After Christmas, orders dropped a bit: "But I think that's relatively normal.

After all, I have a lot of gift items in my range, which are of course more in demand before Christmas than during the year.”

She already has customers all over Germany.

“Just last week I sent another order to Bonn.

But some also order here on site and some even pick it up from my home.”

Owning a shop is a dream

So far, Langner's handicraft ideas can only be ordered online.

Having her own shop would be a long-term dream for the young mother.

“But that will happen or not,” she says.

So far she has had to see how her online shop is doing.

"Anyway, you don't give up a secure job like the one I have as a prison officer so easily." In addition, she is satisfied the way it is now.

"I have my business all to myself, my part-time job and my family," concludes the 27-year-old small businesswoman with satisfaction.
