Senior (PM) Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's office today (Tuesday) sent messages of protest to the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zalansky, demanding that Ukrainian officials stop criticizing Israel's policy toward the war.
A senior Israeli official said that according to the message conveyed to the Ukrainians, it is not possible for Israel to respond to Ukraine's request and invest time and effort in mediating a ceasefire, just to win in return for criticism from Ukraine in the media.
The message to Ukraine was conveyed in the wake of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kolba's remarks against El Al yesterday, in the wake of what Ukrainian President Zalansky himself said last week about Israel not supporting his country enough and in the wake of statements by other Ukrainian spokesmen criticizing Israel last week.
In a tweet on Twitter yesterday, Kolba accused the Israeli airline of profiting from money at the expense of the blood of the victims in Ukraine, which is on the 13th day of the fight against the Russian invasion.
"There are those who want to make money soaked in the blood of Ukraine," Kolba wrote in a Twitter tweet.
"It is immoral and it is a blow to Israeli-Ukrainian relations."
El Al reported yesterday that the use of the Mir credit card was blocked as early as February 28.
"We are sorry that a simple check was not made with us before the misleading tweet, as the facts differ in the purpose of the change," they added.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister apologized for his attack yesterday against El Al and Israel.
In a tweet on Twitter, Kolba wrote that EL AL had indeed blocked the possibility of using the Russian payment system "Mir".
He thanked El Al for its activities in transferring humanitarian aid to Ukraine and wrote that he apologized.
