"The Russians are bombing Kharkiv and Mariupol like in Homs, and we as sheep for slaughter, are suffering from a barbaric war like you in Israel have been suffering for 70 years. It's like your Yom Kippur War - and now it's longer."
Ukraine's ambassador to Israel, Ivan Kornichuk, did not spare words today (Tuesday) when he expressed his displeasure with the situation, when he was a guest at the Institute for National Security Studies.
In a review of the situation presented to the institute's researchers on recent events in the Ukrainian arena, the ambassador explained his feelings by saying that "the situation can not be analyzed logically, only by emotion," adding proudly that the Russian leadership sought quick submission in Kiev and Kharkiv. "We do not want to be part of the Russian Empire."
However, Kornichuk expressed distress when he noted that "time is running out, the number of casualties is rising by the thousands every minute, and there is no end to it yet. The Russian leadership has failed to achieve victory, but after 14 days of fighting they are still trying to subdue Ukraine."
Referring to Bennett's trip on Saturday to a meeting with Putin in Moscow, the ambassador said: "We appreciate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's efforts, but we need results now and not in a month."
These remarks followed a press conference he held yesterday at the Ukraine House in Tel Aviv, where Kornichuk sought to increase the absorption of refugees from Ukraine and hoped that Israeli companies would join the sanctions imposed on Russia.
