US President Joe Biden announced today that the United States is imposing an embargo on Russian oil and gas imports.
And the media quoted Biden as saying in a televised speech that “the decision to ban all Russian oil and gas imports was made in consultation with our allies,” acknowledging at the same time that this decision will not be without price in the United States, and we will do what is necessary to reduce the impact of American citizens on sanctions against Russia.
Biden added that "the United States understands that allies in Europe will not be able to join the ban on energy imports from Russia."
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had previously confirmed that the Russian oil embargo would lead to dire consequences on the global market and that it might make prices jump to $300 a barrel or more.
